SECTION A: KNOWLEDGE / LEARNING AND ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE

Choose ONE question from this section

  1. Contrast the concepts of tacit and explicit knowledge and describe two examples for each on how they apply in the workplace. You can use your portfolio company or another company to situate your examples. (25 points).

Describe two theoretical approaches to learning. Reflect on your own style of learning during this academic term. Then integrate your own reflection with the theory you described. Finally describe how your reflection has affected your understanding of learning, for yourself or in organizations (25 points).

  1. Describe the concept of organizational culture. Contrast Handy’s four cultural categories and, using your portfolio organization or an organization you are familiar with, describe using examples which category your organization belongs to (25 points) and describe an example for each based on a model of personality (25 points)

SECTION B: LEADERSHIP

Choose ONE question from this section

  1. Contrast an employee-centred and a task centred approach to leadership (25 points). Use your portfolio organization, or another organization you are familiar with and describe how the organization would function if it operated under a task-centred leadership and, separately, if it operated under an employee-focused leadership (25 points).
  2. Describe the five functions of management according to Henry Fayol. Use your portfolio organization, or another organization you are familiar with and describe an example for each of the five functions (25 points). Henry Fayol’s five functions of management were developed in 1949. Discuss to which extend each of the five functions is still relevant to the gig economy that is increasingly prevalent in today’s world (25 points).
