Introduction
Management can be defined as the art of carrying out functions and responsibilities in an organized manner with people in formally organized groups. It is also the creation of an environment where goals can be achieved , the art of knowing what to do in every situations presented and how effective to execute duties and functions. Management can be a process, an art, a science, a discipline, an activity and/or a profession. As a process, management assists in planning, organizing, actuating and controlling predetermined goals and objectives of an organization, it propels all the resources available for the achievement of the purposes continuously.

As an activity, management is exercised by the person appointed in charge-the manager who exercise the skills of good management/leadership like decision making, reasoning and visionary skills among others. As a discipline, management stipulates codes and norms that managers ought to abide by for a successful accomplishment of the organizational goals and for full co-operation of the group members. Science is a body of knowledge that employs field studies to explain a phenomena, management as a science has universally accepted principles and requires scientific experimentation and observations.

Just like in science, good management has to look out for the causes and be able to explain the effects as well as predict and validate the principles laid down. There are five universally accepted fundamental functions of management; Planning, Organizing, Directing, Staffing and Controlling.

Planning;
In management, the manager has lay out the course of actions and the effective ways through which the the predetermined goals of the organization and the group is going to be achieved. Planning is like the bridge that takes someone from one place to another, that is, it is the channel
through which the organization shall move from where they are to where they want to be/go. Planning seeks to utilize all the resources available in availing the objectives as well as planning on how to deal with any predictable risks.

Planning requires the participation of the entire organization since for success, unity, continuity, flexibility and precision is imperative. In a
judicial court system, planning ensures that in implementing a system, how to avoid the confusions, risks and wastage thus all the staff from the clerks to the bench members as well as the attorneys need to cooperate in ensuring justice is served in a timely and judicial manner.

Organizing
Is the process of collecting all the resources available and instilling a productive relationship amongst them that will steer them into achieving the predetermined goals. The resources may be raw materials, capital and the personnel. In organizing, a manager identifies the activities to be
carried out then classifies the activities which he assigns to different groups (delegates) after which he co-ordinates his authority and responsibility relationship. Organizing will vary depending on the number of staff in the Organization. In a judicial court system, organization involves the provision of personnel and materials that will steer the organization in achieving its motto, justice for all. For instance, there should be security for maintenance of calm, order and silence in the courts and clerks who record the proceeding efficiently.

Staffing;
Staffing is the employment of staff/manning of an organization and ensuring it is manned through out. Staffing ensures that staffs are handed over or rather assigns to the right job; it employs the knowledge of organizational behavior of promotion, reward, and job motivation is exercised. Human resource managers exercise this function in the recruitment, selection and placement of the stall, training as well as development and remuneration of the staff.

Directing;
Unifying and harmonizing activities to maintain the balance between the organization levels of production. Directing also involves the influencing of the team’s behavior through motivation, communication, group dynamics, leadership and discipline. The purpose of directing is to channel the behavior of all personnel to accomplish the organization’s mission and objectives while simultaneously helping them accomplish their own career objectives.

Controlling;
Controlling is the manner and art through which a manager shall ensure that there is conformity to the laid down standards. It helps in predicting deviations and how to deal with it when it occurs. Thus in controlling, a manager sets out a standard performance, measures the actual performance, compares the two and finds out the reason for the difference. He then undertakes the corrective action for the deviations. (Management study guide) Controlling also involves identification of weaknesses and errors and how to deal with them.

Conclusion
Management is fundamental in an organization because it ensures maximum out pot with minimum efforts and resources, increases the efficiency of factors of production, as well as serves as a tool for social justice. In a judicial court system, it is imperative that management be exercised efficiently and effectively because it is a sensitive organization. In a society where people have no faith in the deliverance of justice by the organization picked to do so, the society members would revolt to serving justice themselves hence situations of mob justice and vigilante killings.
